A Walk Through Life: Lessons from a Cold Spring Morning
Stepping Out After the Long Winter
For the first time after a long winter, I decided to take a one-hour walk. It was only 6°C, but the weather wasn’t too bad. Since I tend to freeze easily, I layered up—a cozy sweater, a jacket, and a pair of insulated pants.
As I stepped outside, the cold pierced through the layers at first. But after just 15 minutes of walking, my body gradually warmed up, and something within me awakened too.
Noticing the Beauty Around Me
With each step, I began to notice the beauty of God’s creation.
The sun peeked gently through the clouds. Colors and forms emerged around me—subtle, yet striking. It's amazing how God's workmanship can recharge the soul of the one who truly sees. This time, it was me. Maybe next time, it could be you.
Life Lessons from a Simple Walk
As I walked, I couldn’t help but reflect—this walk was so much like life itself. Full of ups and downs, pauses and inspiration. Here's what came to mind:
1. We Get Tired—And That’s Okay
The farther I walked, the more tired I became. So, what did I do? I rested.
Just like in life—we get exhausted, physically and emotionally. And it’s okay to pause. Rest is essential for continuing. Sleep, silence, solitude—these are not signs of weakness, but of wisdom.
And when we're weary, God invites us to cast our cares on Him. He will give us rest.
2. We Get Inspired—If We Choose to See
Many artists find inspiration in nature. So can we.
But inspiration doesn’t come automatically. We must choose to see, to listen, to notice. Two people can walk the same path and experience it completely differently.
Sometimes, my husband and I take walks together. He notices every detail—birds chirping, leaves turning. Me? I often get lost in thought and miss it all. Thankfully, he’s there beside me, pulling me gently out of my dream world. That, too, is a gift.
3. We Get Irritated—But We Can Choose Our Response
Not everything is perfect.
After winter, garbage had washed ashore—it was an eyesore. But I realized, I could choose how to respond. I could get upset, or I could see it as part of nature, and even take the opportunity to help clean it up.
Life is the same. We’ll come across garbage—negativity, gossip, toxicity. People who speak or act in hurtful ways. But we don’t have to internalize it.
What can we do?
-
Clean up when we can. Take initiative. Don’t contribute to the mess.
-
Tune out what tears us down. Focus on words that inspire, uplift, and heal. Remember: what we give, we often receive in return.
-
Respond with grace. When faced with difficult people, keep this in mind:
Before you assume—learn the facts.
Before you judge—understand why.
Before you hurt—feel.
Before you speak—think.

A Final Thought: Choose Joy
Let’s be grateful for happiness and the people who bring it to our lives. As Marcel Proust beautifully said:
"Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."
Whether it’s a walk, a word, or a moment—take it in. Feel it. Share it.
And above all—choose JOY.
This is a really nice post... have learned your site because of michi's recent contest. I never had a chance to explore other blog sites aside from michi's since my intention for having a blogsite is just for releasing some stress in life. It's really worth my time to read and will probably read more of your previous posts, very inspiring.
